Extensively experienced in a wide range of procedures, such as corneal and anterior segment eye surgery, corneal laser refractive surgery, and cataract surgery, San Diego-based physician Dr. Davies changes lives at his practice.
Dr. Davies is known for his interests and abilities in many areas, but has remained focused on a medical career from an early age. Recruited out of high school by many universities for his basketball, baseball, and soccer skills, he decided instead to devote his time and attention to pursuits he deemed of greater value. Included in those pursuits were two years of church missionary service in northern Italy.
Dr. Davies graduated with High Honors with Distinction and with the University Scholar designation from Brigham Young University. He was also elected to the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. From there he returned to his home state of Michigan and attended medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine. His medical internship and ophthalmology residency were completed at Sinai Hospital of Detroit, where he served as Chief Resident.
After his training, he began his ophthalmology practice, focusing on cataract surgery in San Diego. Over the years, he has become known among patients and peers alike as a highly skilled, ethical and compassionate physician who finds great joy in serving and helping his patients. He has served many people through organizations such as Surgical Eye Expeditions International and the Flying Samaritans, which is an important part of his life and career.
Dr. James Davies is board certified in eye surgery by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). His education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by the College.
Dr. Davies is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the American Medical Association, the California Medical Association, and the San Diego County Medical Society. He is the medical director of the Surgical Eye Care Center, an office-based, Medicare-approved surgery center, and InnoVision Eye Care Centers, at which he performs many different eye treatments, including laser eye surgery and cataract surgery.
Outside of the office he is actively involved in many community and church activities. He and his wife delight in the company of their seven children and four grandchildren. As time permits, Dr. Davies enjoys skiing and hiking, staying current with foreign languages (he is fluent in four languages), composing music on the piano, singing with his wife, and writing poetry.
